Gen. Kayani to brief APC on national security

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Pervaiz Rashid, said on Sunday that preparations for the all parties conference (APC) scheduled for July 12 had been completed.

He said Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani will brief the politicians on national security. He said the PML-N-led government was committed to overcoming terrorism and would send invitations to all parties for the conference.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan has canceled his trip to Europe because of the conference. Khan will now go to Europe to meet his children and have a medical check-up on July 13 instead of July 10 upon a request by the government.

The minister told that drone attacks, the Balochistan situation, war on terror and national security policy are on agenda of the APC.

Political will is needed to curb terrorism and militancy in the country, he said and added that the government would hold talks with the Taliban within the limits of the Constitution.

Rashid blamed the last governments for not taking concrete steps to root out terrorism from the country.
He said the federal government would provide full assistance to the provinces, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh, to eliminate terrorism.
